Kick-off Meeting of the Erasmus+ CBHE Project MED.HELA Held in Tlemcen, Algeria
The Kick-off Meeting of the Erasmus+ CBHE project **MED.HELA** (Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy) was held on 20–21 January 2026 in Tlemcen, Algeria. The event was hosted by the project coordinator, the University of Tlemcen.
Funded under the Erasmus+ programme (Capacity Building in Higher Education – CBHE), MED.HELA is a three-year initiative designed to strengthen leadership capacities within higher education institutions in Algeria and Tunisia. The project seeks to address key systemic gaps in university governance, strategic planning, and institutional management. It is closely aligned with nationally identified reform priorities and is firmly anchored in ministerial engagement, evidence-based leadership frameworks, and European best practices in higher education leadership development.
The consortium brings together partners from Algeria, Tunisia, Ireland, Slovenia, and Spain. The active participation of Tunisian universities, including the Université de Jendouba, reflects their strong commitment to enhancing university governance and strengthening managerial and strategic competencies.
The two-day meeting officially marked the launch of the project’s implementation phase. Partners aligned on strategic objectives, validated the work plan, clarified roles and responsibilities, and laid the foundations for the joint development of a comprehensive Leadership Development Programme tailored to the Mediterranean higher education context.
All partners demonstrated a high level of engagement and commitment, reaffirming their shared ambition to establish a sustainable Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy that contributes to institutional excellence, governance modernization, and international openness.
